What is jujitsu_The Jiu Jitsu Foundation - First Class Free!
Bored with the routine? Looking to get fit but not a fan of the treadmill? Jiu Jitsu is a fun way to challenge yourself, learn some handy self-defence skills and get fit in the process! Come along and have a go at something truly different today?

So what exactly is Jiu Jitsu?

We teach a modern form of the traditional Japanese martial art Jiu Jitsu, which simply described is:
  • A system of defensive techniques, which use an attacker's momentum against them
  • Traditionally based - with spectacular traditional throws
  • Locks, strikes and throws adapted for modern day contexts
We believe the Jiu Jitsu Foundation - as a founder member of the National Governing Body (NGB) and largest single style in the UK - has something to offer everyone. Whether you're the 'I've never set foot in a gym in my life' type or a total fitness fanatic, the best way to see what we're about is to come and have a go yourself. As a not for profit organisation, you'll find we're great value.

I'm not particularly fit/strong/scary looking - can I do Jiu Jitsu?

Almost certainly yes, but you'll only know if you try. Jiu Jitsu works on the principle of redirecting an attacker's force and momentum against them, using the minimum necessary effort to produce the maximum effect. This means you don't have to be particularly big or strong to do well, and you don't have to be fit to start with, although you will find you get fitter! If you have a particular concern, contact your local instructor who will be happy to discuss it with you.
