I hope you’re well and training hard. I’ve been in the Chair role for over 12 months now and my original remit was:
To halt the declining numbers and grow.
Implement Governance to change the way we work.
I’m delighted to state that in a year we have started to turn things around : membership is up 7%, while attendance at the Nationals and new regional gradings increased by more than 10%. More members and more people attending our events. Brilliant work and thank you everyone involved. I appreciate all the effort that goes into this organisation week in, week out.
The first stage of the governance project has now been implemented. The Leadership Board (formerly known as the Tertiary Board) and all the other boards (Disciplinary, Junior, Technical and Promotions) have had their roles and responsibilities defined and streamlined. This will help us to operate more efficiently and effectively. Changes to the Management Board will follow in due course.
We shouldn’t rest on our laurels though. Let’s keep striving for small improvements and make this Foundation bigger and better.
Last month, I told you that I loved being back on the mat teaching. This is my favourite part - so I’m continuing to get out there. This month I’ve got a Regionals Course and then the National BaD Course on the 28th February in Birmingham. A double win. The latter is going to be a great event where our instructors can receive feedback and direction from me and the Technical Board.
